***True freshman linebacker Keith Brown completed the “Brown out” at linebacker. He took a lot of reps with the first team defense at middle moving Preston Brown back to strongside linebacker. (This appeared to be the Cards base defense. Look for Deiontrez Mount to get a lot of run coming in as a pass rushing linebacker/defensive end hybrid on third downs.)
With Daniel Brown at weakside linebacker I’d say may last name is doing well at U of L.
U of L coach Charlie Strong said Keith Brown got a jump on the rest of his class by enrolling in January and practicing in the spring.
“He’s been able to learn the defense,” Strong said. “And (true freshman linebacker James Burgess) also they’re familiar with it so they understand the calls and the checks.”
***Strong said sophomore receiver Michaelee Harris, who suffered a right knee injury last December, is going to be brought along slowly. Harris participated in some practice drills, wearing a brace on his knee. But whenever there was contact involved – even with the Cards in helmets and shorts – he stayed on the sidelines.
“He’s going to take reps, if he’s available then we’re going to use him,” Strong said.
Harris led the team in receiving yards last year. In his absence, Damian Copeland looked good as a replacement. Copeland has battled his own injuries his first two seasons, but looks primed to make a name for himself as a junior.
I forgot to ask, but Harris’ void may also be the reason why redshirt freshman Charles Gaines was moved back to receiver. The speedster from Miami practiced at cornerback all last fall and into the spring.
*** Confirmed what has been reported earlier by AuburnUndercover.com that Edgewood, Ky. And former Auburn quarterback Zeke Pike is transferring to U of L. Only thing left, to my understanding, is paperwork (same with Clemson WR transfer Bryce McNeal). The twist is that the 6-foot-6 Pike will play tight end.
